 Lansing, October 2 - The Library of Michigan developed the Quality Service Audit Checklist in order to create an education tool on library financing and a common vision of where to take library service in the 21st Century.  The QSAC measures may be used as part of strategic planning and as examples of where and how your library can grow and improve.

Harper Woods, October 3 - The library has received a LEEDŽ Green Building Award from the United States Green Building Council.  The library achieved a Silver Level certification for going above and beyond the basic requirements during its renovation.

Essential Level Certificate Awarded

Lansing, October 1 - The library recently went through a rigorous internal review  to insure that it was supplying the essential services to residents and the Library of Michigan agreed, awarding Harper Woods an Essential Level Certificate.  The essential designation is the first of three possible levels and the information gathered during the review will give the library a great baseline to work towards further service enhancements.  It also will help point out hurdles to overcome in order to achieve the highest, or excellent, designation.

 

Detroit, September 18 - Target has awarded the library a $1,000.00 grant to help 
the library provide quality childrens programming.  The money will be used 
towards Story Times, Family Nights and the 2008 Summer Reading Club.  

Every week Target gives more than $2 million to strengthen families and 
communities across the nation, with a focus on children's education

Harper Woods, March 19 -
Library Receives Grant from Scott Foundation
The Martha G. Scott Foundation, in conjunction with the JoAnne Nicolay Foundation, presented
a $1,000.00 grant to the Harper Woods Library Foundation at a ceremony March 19, 2007.

Library Receives Award from Services for Older Citizens

Grosse Pointe Farms, April 15 - Services for Older Citizens awarded the library on Sunday with its 2007 SOC Senior Friendly Business Award. Mayor Ken Poynter presented the award to library director Dale Parus at a luncheon at Pier Park in April.

The honor recognized the library's achievements in servicing the needs of the senior community. Examples included the recent renovation, which made the entire building senior friendly for the first time. The addition of an elevator and a redesigned staircase with deeper treads and shallower risers are two such features that help seniors be more mobile in a public building.



Other senior-friendly products include large print books and a special enlarging machine for those with eye degeneration.

The library also provides books for shut-ins by making house calls right to the
senior's home or apartment.
